People say love happens when you're not looking for it, that it takes you by surprise when and where you least expect it. But what happens when the surprise includes the added dimension of discovering yourself falling for someone of another race? And what do you risk losing if you're not open to that possibility?

Is love a numbers game?
Statistics show that most people are open to dating someone of another racial background; singles who limit their dating entirely to people of their own race are the distinct minority.

Only 36 percent of whites and 24 percent of African-Americans restrict themselves to same-race dating. After that, the numbers plummet — only 17 percent of Asians, 13 percent of Indians and Middle Easterners, 9 percent of Hispanics and Native Americans, and 4 percent of Pacific Islanders.
