And Sometimes I Sit

and sometimes i sit
down at my typewriter
and i think
not of someone
cause there isn't anyone
to think
about and i wonder
is it worth it

Because it seems more like the ramblings of an 3am emo LJer than poetry. There's no capitalization, nor does it have any punctuation... like a text message. I can understand the artistic device of ignoring these, but the content of the poem doesn't make up for it, IMHO.

Sure, okay, it may be art. But I'm not impressed with the effort that went into the 'poem'. Seems like a program that randomly picks out phrases from LJ (or any large amount of literature) would make for more entertaining reading. :D

capitalization and punctuation aren't requirements for poetry, and while it may read like a text message, the poem itself was written before cell phones and emails got really popular. so at the time, ignoring those types of rules was really a conscious departure from the academy.

but hey, ymmv.
